A Hot Second Half Start

Crawford hitting it out of the park for a grand slam!

After the Giants killed it at the All Star game they continued their dominance and began the second half of the season winning 7 of their first 9 games.  They began by sweeping the Houston Astros at home, if the Astros didn’t have to play us ever again I think they’d be relieved, and then the Giants went on the road to face the Braves and the Phillies where they took 2 out of 3 games from each team.  The team has been able to get off to such a hot start after the All Star break because of their pitching and the bats of The Melk Man, Buster, and Crawford…. yes you heard me right, Brandon Crawford.

Finally Tim Lincecum has started to figure things out and has been lights out in his last 2 starts.  In my opinion the team is only going to be able to go so far if Timmy is not pitching like we all know he can, he is not just an important part of  the pitching staff but of the team overall.  With him starting to pitch better and the starting staff looking good overall the sky is the limit!  Giants fan’s have gotten used to seeing Melky and Buster contribute with their bats on a daily basis, but the third big contributor as of late is none other than Brandon Crawford.  Since the All Star break he has a 3 run home run, a grand slam, and 8 RBI’s.  Having offense from all 9 positions is important, especially for a team that isn’t built for power.

The Giants now return home to face 2 division rivals in the Padres and the Dodgers and also the New York Mets.  Given the new post season system where 2 wild card teams make the playoffs and play a 1 game playoff all games at the end of July and August are important.  You don’t have control over what other teams do, so it’s important for the Giants to take control of their own play and do everything in their power to secure the division so they don’t have to play in a 1 game playoff.  Hope to see everyone at the ballpark for this home stand and if you can’t join us at the park tune into CSN Bay Area and listen to our favorite announcers Kruk &Kuip!
