The young first basemen, Brandon Belt, had high hopes when he made the team out of spring training and got the opening day start. Unfortunately soon after, things started to spin out of control for the young lefty as nothing was going his way. Due to some injuries and roster changes Belt got another opportunity to prove himself in the majors, the only question was if he’d take advantage of this chance.
The Baby Giraffe, as he’s affectionately known as to Giants fans got his name from Giants broadcaster Duane Kuiper, has taken full advantage of being an everyday starter and has been a huge contributor to the Giants offense. He has a current 11 game hitting streak that he brings into today’s game while they go for the sweep against their Bay Area rival the Oakland A’s. During his hit streak he is hitting .441 and has all of his 4 home runs for the season during this stretch.
It’s important if the Giants are going to go deep into the playoffs to have productivity from their 1st baseman. We don’t have a Albert Pujols, a Ryan Howard, or an Adrian Gonzalez at 1st, so as you can see it’s vital for Belt to keep contributing. As we approach the end of June Belt has 29 RBI’s and looks to rack up those numbers as we get closer to the All-Star Break in Kansas City this year.
Tune into CSN Bay Area today at 1:05 pacific time to watch the Giants and Belt go for the sweep versus the A’s. GO GIANTS!
